I think Hispanic community is amongst the fastest growing markets in the world - if you don't want to ignore them ... learn Spanish and become involved :)

Well. Spanish is the official language in 20 countries in The world and the second language in many other more. For example, only in Mexico, there are 106 million people who speaks Spanish. Also in Colombia, Spain and Argentina there are around 40 million speakers in each territory. All Latin American countries Speak Spanish except for Brazil, French Guyana, Suriname and some islands in the Caribbean. But even more interesting is the fact that 31 million people speak Spanish in the unite States, and quickly is becoming the official second language. In New Mexico State it is already the official Language and in cities like Miami and New York there are huge populations of millions of Cubans and Boricuas. That is the reason why so many Americans are starting to speak it also.

So, After knowing all this, it is not impossible to believe that Spanish is the third most spoken language in the world after Chinese and English.

Even it is spoken in The Philippines and Marroco and it is the official Language of Equatorial Guinea, in West Africa.

It is worth it to at least speak Spanish nowadays in the scenario of the fast growing economies of the world. More and more negotiations in the world are being held in Spanish. Many IT companies in India, like the famous Infosys, for example, are starting to make important business with south American Banks and other types of enterprises.

Well, it is also known that Spanish is so similar to other Indo-European languages that come from Latin, and so that, if you learn Spanish it will be easier to get languages like Italian, French and Portuguese.

So, after knowing these facts... Are you ready to learn Spanish?

As I said to my teacher (Edith Luna) in my first lesson: Quiero aprender espanol para tener mas fuentes originales de la informacion. I didn't know how many mistakes I made in that sentence, but it sort of expressed what I was aiming at. It turned out to be quite a joyous experience, my first course in Spanish. If you'd ask me for the reason now, I'd say: because I love to learn a language that is spoken by more than 230 million people all over the world with a richness of culture that is staggering. (And almost fully unknown over here in Europe.)

Besides taking the lessons, I try to read the spanish bible (El Libro) and Harry Potter. I found that reading and understanding are much easier than speaking the language.

...and I will try to get Octavio Girondo and Angela Becerra....

Yes, it is worthwile the effort to learn Spanish!
